Game Studies

Seminar papers written during my study of Computer Game Sciences M.A. at the University of Bayreuth. Currently in German, might translate them at some point 🙂

Staging of animal demons in The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone. A deconstruction and classification. My first deep dive into quest aesthetics (what tools does a quest designer have, low-level and abstract?) with some heavy nods to film art. Object of inquiry are the animal demons black cat and black dog in “Scenes of a Marriage”.

Pacing, Time and the Computer Game. A media science synthesis. Result of my philosophical research into what “pacing” is and how content in computer games works; started this because I found I didn’t have a satisfying concept of the term.

On “Image-Based Tree Variations”. A computer science paper on billboard (clouds) generated via deep learning from actual tree images.

Media Analysis: The Witcher (2007). Technical, cultural, production context analysis and content analysis regarding technology, systems/mechanics, audiovision/space, narration and player performance.
